  1. Stay Active

While dancing is an intense activity in itself, it’s always good to cross-train! As an athlete, it’s important you stay on the top of your physical skills. Trying different activities and sports is an easy way to stay in shape and try new things! When you dance, you use the same muscles over and over. Cross-training gives your body the chance to strengthen other muscles that you might not use. Great cross-training ideas include running, swimming, or even body-weight exercises. These will make you a stronger, more fit dancer!

2. Find the Right Clothes

If you’ve ever tried to dance in street clothes you’ll know just how important the right clothes can be to a dancer! Make it a priority to find the right dance clothes so you can become the best dancer! Keep your dance clothes sacred by not wearing them for other things on a daily basis, and always work out in specialized clothes. The right dance costumes can transform your routine and make you feel your best!

3. Dance Constantly

While it’s not always possible to dance ALL the time, you can dance most of the time! Make dancing a part of your everyday routine by adding dance elements to everything you do. You’ll be surprised by just how often you can fit in some dance moves. Perform dance moves while you’re cooking dinner or while you’re cleaning the house. You might even become more productive because you’re having so much fun!

4. Listen to Music

While you probably already listen to music on a daily basis, you might not listen as intensely as you should. Listening to music has a lot of benefits for dancers especially. Everyone can appreciate the calming effects of a great song, but dancers can really appreciate the way a song makes them feel. If you have a routine coming up, listening to your music is a great way to become more familiar with it from start to finish. Really listen to the beats and make a habit of counting them in your head. Connect with the emotion of the music to see how it makes you feel! The habit of intensely listening to music will help you perform better on stage!

5. Practice Every Day (No Excuses!)

It’s easy to let life get in the way of your dancing. The best dancers know better. The best dancers don’t bother with excuses for why they’re too busy on the weekend or why they can’t stop at the gym in the morning. If you want to be the best, you need to commit to practicing every day. That doesn’t mean you have to spend hours every morning going over every aspect of your latest routine in painstaking detail. It does mean reviewing the basics, perfecting your technique, and trying your best every day.

Becoming A Great Dancer

The best dancers know the importance of the little things. It’s not enough to practice a few times a week and call it a day. If you want to be the best, you need to know how to integrate the life of a dancer into everything you do. From dancing in your kitchen to practicing the basics, as long as you’re committed to dancing every day, you’ll become the best dancer you can be!
