Day 23: Fake-out Turn

Another semi-made up turn from the Isabel repertoire of turns and names for things. This is another one where we won’t be focusing too much on the technical aspect of it as there is really no right or wrong way to do it, just different variations, interpretations and expressions. That is the beauty of dance right there.
BUT, like I said yesterday, don’t forget the technical stuff because a strong hold on the technical is precisely what ALLOWS you to truly express yourself through creative, “non-technical” movement. For this turn you will step to one side then fake to the opposite side followed by a turn towards the side you started on. It sounds much more complicated than it really is. Literally think of a pump-fake in sports, you are just doing it in heels (or not). Step everything out. Use your head to look where you are “faking” in order to make it more believable and sharp.
Remember:
  • Have fun with this one also. Try different variations. Make something up. That’s when beautiful things are really created.
  • Use your steps to be quick on your feet and have sharp pivots.
  • Experiment with different ways to get in and out of it from your basic, or even from other turns….ooooooooo!!!

Like I said before, there is no right or wrong here, just fun! Good luck and enjoy….tomorrow is back to business.
